Competitors to ChatGPT

Google’s Meena: Meena is a conversational AI developed by Google. Like ChatGPT, it is designed to engage in human-like conversations with users. Meena is particularly well-known for its ability to handle complex conversations and engage in social chit-chat.

Google’s next solution is called Confident Adaptive Language Modeling (CALM).  Launched in late 2022, this new framework devotes less resources to trivial portions of a text generation task and then devotes significantly more resources to the more difficult parts.

Microsoft’s XiaoIce: XiaoIce (think of it as a misspelling of solace) is a conversational AI developed by Microsoft. It is popular in China, where it is used as a chatbot in messaging apps like WeChat. Interestingly, XiaoIce, which is known for its ability to engage in emotional conversations, can even provide emotional support to users.

Microsoft’s Bing:  Recently released Microsoft’s Bing is again changing the AI landscape.  Bing is already ahead in the AI race, even earning it the title of ZDNET‘s overall best AI chatbot. Just this June, Bing Chat is moving from limited preview to open preview, meaning everyone can access the chatbot.  There are no more waitlists, as there still are for other AI options.   We think one of the coolest features is it can read a PDF and then answer questions you have about it.

Facebook’s Blender: Blender is a conversational AI developed by Facebook. It is designed to engage in multi-turn conversations with users and can understand and generate text in multiple languages. Blender is particularly well-known for its ability to engage in open-domain conversations on a wide range of topics.

OpenAI’s GPT-3: GPT-3 is the successor to ChatGPT and is currently one of the largest and most advanced language models available. It is designed to perform a wide range of natural language processing tasks, including text generation, question-answering, and language translation.  It reached over one million hits within days of it being launched.

Google Lens:  Google Lens is an image recognition tool that uses artificial intelligence through advanced deep learning algorithms trained on massive datasets to identify objects and text. It can identify items within an image captured in real-time with your phone, like a bug or a plant, or uploaded to the Google Lens app.

Anthropic:  Anthropic (who raised $1.45 billion in a recent funding round), is an AI safety and research company based in San Francisco. Their interdisciplinary team has experience across ML, physics, policy, and product.

Mid Journey:  From their web site, “Midjourney is an independent research lab exploring new mediums of thought and expanding the imaginative powers of the human species… focused on design, human infrastructure and AI.

Photosonic:  Want beautiful, royalty free pictures?  Try Photosonic, an AI art generator.  Your imagination is its only limit.  For more information, click See more.

Dall E-2:  DALL-E 2 (think the artist Salvadore Dali) was the original tool that led the way in AI image generation and is still considered one of the best tools in the AI image generation industry.

Canva:  You can use Canva even if you have no design experience.  Create anything, on your own or collaborate with others.  And it’s free.
